(Only one person read this book, so here’s his comment. If anyone else has read this book and wants to comment, feel free.)

The book that I am reading is called, Hunger For Memory, and It is by Richard Rodriguez. We all know a little bit about Richard Rodriguez and how passionate he can be in his writings. This book is no different. In this classic memoir style of his, Richard brings up back to his very beginnings when growing up with is family. He talks about how he always felt like he was different as a child. When he was a child, the only language that he knew as a child was Spanish, and that English was some distant sound from the gringos, or white people. He considered Spanish to be very comforting to him, and that it gave him the since of family and trust and happiness, and that anything that was in English was not to be trusted. A lot changed throughout the course of the story. He begins to learn more and more English, and neighborhood kids began to like and know his name. Its a story of transition and insight, and I cant wait to finish the book that I have started.

We won’t conduct book circles for the book you chose last. Instead, the assignment is as follows (read these instructions carefully!):

Hand in a typed copy of your opinion paragaph on Thursday, Dec. 18.

General:

Pick a topic.
Come up with a topic sentence. Example: There are many reasons why marijuana should be legalized. (Don’t use that topic!)
Brainstorm a few good reasons to support your opinion/statement.
Come up with a supporting detail (or details) for each of your reasons.
Come up with a closing thought that restates the topic sentence and “ties up” the paragraph.
